That's a hat trick for the Ram Brand: The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX's win is the third in as many years for the brand. The Ram 1500 earned the title in 2019 and the Ram Heavy Duty took top honors for 2020.
The Ram 1500 has solidified its place as a top contender in the truck market, earning MotorTrend's prestigious Truck of the Year award in 2019, 2020, and again in 2021. Each year, the Ram's performance, design, and innovation pushed the boundaries of what a truck can offer.
In 2019, the Ram 1500 was heralded as a game-changer, marking a significant evolution for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. It won over jurors with its blend of advanced design, technology, and overall capability. Its new look broke away from traditional Ram design cues, offering buyers a variety of grilles, wheel sizes, and cab configurations to suit different needs. Inside, the Ram 1500 boasted a spacious and functional cabin with top-tier technology, like the Uconnect infotainment system with up to a 12-inch touchscreen.
Performance-wise, the 2019 Ram featured coil-spring rear suspension for a smoother ride and an optional air suspension for added versatility. The eTorque mild-hybrid system, available with both the V6 and V8 engines, increased fuel efficiency without compromising power.
The following year, the 2020 Ram 1500 maintained its momentum, earning the Truck of the Year award again. The 2020 model continued to impress with its high-end interior that rivaled luxury vehicles, featuring plush materials and cutting-edge tech. The truck's multi-function tailgate and cargo management solutions enhanced its practicality, while the air suspension system delivered superior ride quality.
MotorTrend lauded the Ram 1500 for its comfort, refinement, and the luxury it brought to the pickup segment, even naming it the "Best Full-Size Pickup Truck of the Year."
In 2021, Ram scored a hat trick with the Ram 1500 TRX, a high-performance variant that dominated the competition. Powered by a supercharged 6.2L V8, the TRX delivered an astounding 702 horsepower, making it the most powerful production pickup truck of the time. Built for off-road prowess, the TRX was equipped with specialized suspension, a reinforced frame, and advanced technology for tackling rough terrains.
The TRX's win in 2021 marked Ram's third consecutive Truck of the Year award, solidifying its status as a dominant force in the truck market.
The Ram 1500's three-year streak of winning MotorTrend's Truck of the Year award reflects its commitment to innovation, luxury, and performance. Whether it's the refined interior, advanced technology, or powerful engine options, Ram continues to raise the bar for what a full-size truck can be.
